What is the gorgeous pink gemstone Morganite?

Morganite is a member of the Beryl family, along with Aquamarine, Emerald and the extremely rare Red Beryl.

Although violet and peach are possible morganite colours, the most common and preferred colour is pink. Heating removes the yellow tinge from peach beryl, so it’s often heated to get a “pinker” gemstone.

When Morganite was discovered in Madagascar in 1910, Tiffany & Co introduced it to the gem market. Tiffany named it Morganite, in honour of the financier J. P. Morgan, who was an avid gem collector.
