A gentle nudge in the right direction

Whether you’re buying a gift for a friend or considering a fabulous new piece of jewellery for a special occasion, sometimes a nudge in the right direction is required.

I’ve pulled together some ideas for you (or an accomplice if you have a friend doing the nudging), to help seed the idea and get what you’ve had your eye on.

  1. Remembering why you are hinting is important. The goal is to help the gift giver! If you flip the idea of your ‘gain’ at the end, you are in fact trying to help the person considering what to buy you, so they can feel good that they got you the right gift.

  2. Make sure the hint is heard! Don’t just drop it into a conversation and hope that’s done the job.

  3. You could approach it hypothetically, “if I was to enhance my jewellery collection, I think I’d start with xxxx, what do you think?”

  4. Hint dropping at its finest “oh, do you remember that necklace you bought me from Jade Thomas? It was the best present I’ve been given; I wonder if she has anything to match?”

  5. Let’s consider the consequences if you were given a gift you really didn’t appreciate. If you think the person gifting you will perhaps veer off in that direction, you need to take control! Maybe leave tablets open on the website you’ve been drooling over, or if you’re out at the shops, go for a ‘look’ in the window with the gift giver!

  6. Online wish lists are a thing now. Jewellery is an investment, so you need to make sure you get the piece you want. Maybe there a few pieces you could add to your wish list all from the same range or the same gemstone?

  7. We can finish off by not advising that you need to know if the person can afford the piece of jewellery. You don’t want to embarrass the person!

  8. Or finally, you could just put on your big girl pants and directly mention that you’ve seen something you’d like!

All of my rings are made in one of the four UK standard sizes for women (L, M, N & O), but they can be resized free of charge, so don’t worry. I can post out a cable tie style ring sizer or you can download a printable ring sizer here.

A couple of other points!
