Celebrating The World Fair Trade Day 2023

Ethical Jewellery for a Sustainable Future

If you haven’t already heard of it, I thought I’d use World Fair Trade Day to introduce you to Fair Trade Gold, it is a fabulous ethical alternative to traditional gold mining practices.

Fair trade gold is a certification that ensures the gold used in jewelry has been sourced responsibly and mined with respect for human rights and the environment. The certification guarantees that miners receive fair wages, work in safer conditions, and have access to education and healthcare. Additionally, fair trade gold promotes environmental protection by requiring sustainable mining practices, such as reducing the use of toxic chemicals and preserving biodiversity.

I really like using Fair trade gold with my ethically mined gems and I know my clients value this option too.

Empowering Artisanal Miners

One of the significant advantages of fair trade gold is its focus on empowering artisanal miners. By supporting fair trade practices, we can contribute to improving the lives of these miners and their families.

Fair trade gold usually costs 15-20% more than the tracked price of gold and this premium is invested in community development projects, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering sustainable economic growth.

Environmental Sustainability

Unlike conventional mining methods, fair trade gold mining strives to minimise the ecological footprint by prohibiting the use of harmful chemicals such as mercury and cyanide, which are commonly used in traditional mining and have devastating effects on the environment and human health. Fair trade mines also prioritize land restoration and reforestation, aiming to rehabilitate ecosystems affected by mining activities and protect biodiversity in the long term.

Transparent Supply Chain

From mine to ‘all mine’, every step of my gold’s journey is monitored and certified, ensuring traceability and accountability. Using Fair trade gold in your jewellery gives you confidence that your gold is free from conflict or exploitation.
