Tell me a little about your business and what its purpose is

I am a Beauty Therapist of 23 years and have been a salon owner for 20 years. Amber Beauty Salon was started after working for other salon owners and realising that they were all about the money and not so much about therapist and clients.

I wanted to be able do my treatments without always have to ask if the client wanted any other addition service or leaving my client on a steam or mask to go and do a small treatment on another client. The money is very important to me but so is my client and her time with me.

At Amber Salon if a client books an hour’s treatment then that’s her time to relax and the therapist is with that client until the end of the treatment.

Amber Beauty Salon is all about the client’s beauty needs.

Where did your passion for your business come from?

To be very honest with you I really don’t know, I started life as a chef and after 17 years I went back to collage to become a Beauty Therapist. I enjoy seeing the results that I can achieve on my clients and always want to do more to make them relax and enjoy the experience, so I think my passion for my business comes from my clients.

How have you adapted your business to the current climate?

At present my business is closed with all my products locked inside I am part of a Leisure Center so have no access to them which means I cannot sell my products online.

I have always wanted my own product range and was in the process of developing PatsyB Products when everything changed. I have moved up the production of my product range started setting up a website and I am ready to go. Because of my place of work I don’t think I will be going back to work for a few more months.

What top three tips would you give to someone looking to start their own business right now?

  1. Be sure you really want to work for yourself, it can be a lonely place and you are responsible for everything that goes on in your business.

  2. Have funds to start the business then a contingency back up that will carry you for at least 6 months.

  3. Location or a good website

What kind of jewellery do you wear?

 I like gold jewellery.

My must-have are earrings, I feel undressed without them.

Do you have a jewellery wish list? Perhaps a board on Pinterest?!

No I don’t, I normally see something that I like then make the purchase.

… Thanks Patsy! I love the tanzanite ring you’re wearing! Good luck with the relaunch of your salon after lock down and also the launch of your new product line!
